October

Week of 08-12
We just finished a school project in Grabouw for a multifunctional school. It was a great experience working with classmates as a team. The project finished smoothly, with no injuries and any problems. Back at work it seemed like I had been gone for a year, everything in every project was at an advanced level even some of the office standards had been revised. I continued with my council submissions. We are almost finished with a project in Camps Bay….It looks like heaven on earth---some things never make much aesthetic sense on paper until it is built.

Week of 15-19
I started working on working drawings for a project in Mazepa. I am a little nervous, it is the first time I am working on full scale working drawings…so far it looks great even though it is taking longer than I thought.  I went to council to pick up drawings for a further submission with the Province…It looks like I know most council departments now, I actually like it. Unfortunately weekends always separates from our work, am off to mine…….

We just finished drawing existing structure of one of our projects. It is located in the V&A Marina in Waterfront. I t came at the time I wanted to draught so badly. I did most of the existing drawings.

Week of 07-11
I was doing schedules for the whole week. Agghhh… schedules are not as easy as they might look, they need…

Week of 14-18
Wow I have a project that only I draughts on it.. it is small but never the less it is worth seeing where it is taking me. I am excited about this project..I hope to take it as far as I can.

June
Week of 04-08
I just got some plans approved submitted at council..

July
Week of 02-06
It is my week. I have been working on a fireplace detail- it looks great and all my employers are happy about my capabilities.

Week of 09-13
We were at site, seeing structures go up boost up my confidence with each brick that gets laid up.

Week of 23-27
I just attempted to sketch a building in Sketch up, it is great but does not feel good as hand drawing..

August
Week of 30 July – 03 August
I have been working on a major project in the office; I did not do much in draughting of floor plans, sections and elevations but floor finishes, wall finishes, steel layouts and ceiling finishes were my babies.

Week of 06-10
Window, door and shutter schedules- I think anyone in the office think that they are what I am meant to do, or maybe it is because I do them so well….they are all I did in the whole week.

Week of 20-24
We have been under pressure; we have a deadline to meet. One of our biggest houses had to be billed for elemental estimate. The week moved so fast,

Week of 27-31
I am on the schedules again but on a different project…it is at its tender stage. The week ended well with an office outing to a restaurant in Constantia.

September
Week of 03-07
We just issued drawings for elemental estimate to the quantity surveyor. Everything at work is just relaxed, everyone is not so busy.

Week of 10-14
Once again the week has come to an end…I worked on window, door and shutter schedules almost the whole week.

Second & Third week in the office!!

The offices keep getting busy with each passing minute! We just got another project at the end of last week.... I loved measuring up the existing house. It has been so busy, new lessons every day.

For the past week, l did window, shutter and door schedules for a project that is already in progress and sections, elevations and roof plan for a new project. AutoCad gets more easy with each command l punch- there  is a lot to discover.

Oh....I have been given the responsibility to run all council submissions- I go to the council every Tuesday and Thursday.

I look forward to the coming week.

23.03.2012

Phew!! Being indoors behind a computer, running around to council, visiting the site, measuring on site is some of the most scariest things l had to deal with this week.
Thanks good heavens I am in a small firm, only the six of us, wow! I am included in every little thing they do, l love the cohesion in the firm- team work and family spirit at its best. I hope things work out well throughout the year, and l pray for blessings from God.

General Work Observations.

The most important thing l learnt this week is every line on an architectural drawing means a lot. I have been working closely with the technologist, he analysis every line with great attention. No drawing is issued for tender, council approval or construction purposes without being triple checked.

Never ever trust builders! Great attention and follow ups are needed to check if the building is being constructed to detail.

The architect should be equipped with knowledge of many branches of study and varied kinds of learning.

It was such a busy and interesting week.
